Community CHEW began serving Jasper, Indiana in 2017, by providing a hot meal, and creating opportunities for children in need to find their purpose and thrive.
Cassie Williams, a special education teacher at Jasper Middle School, had a student who was experiencing hunger over the weekends. She felt called to create something to fill in the meal gap during school breaks, especially summer.
A board of directors was formed. This board began making plans to provide a meal for students each Thursday during the summer months. They didn’t want to be a handout, they wanted this program to be a place for kids to feel loved and give children an opportunity to grow mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
